A little planning before your jungle trek can make your Bukit Lawang experience much more comfortable. Organise your arrival, accommodation and transport early so you can begin your trek rested and prepared.
Whenever possible, we recommend arriving in Bukit Lawang at least one day before your jungle trek starts.
This gives you time to recover from your journey, check into your accommodation and prepare the items you will need for trekking.
It is particularly useful if you are arriving after a long international flight or travelling directly from another part of Sumatra.
Most travelers reach Bukit Lawang by road after arriving in Medan or at Kualanamu International Airport.
Private transportation can be arranged from the airport, Medan and several other destinations in North Sumatra.

Instead of travelling several hours and immediately entering the rainforest, you can rest and begin your trek the following morning with more energy.
Accommodation is also available for travelers who want to stay after finishing their trek.
Large suitcases and travel backpacks are not suitable for jungle trekking.
Leave your main luggage at your accommodation in Bukit Lawang and carry only the items needed during your trek.
A small daypack is usually enough for shorter programs.
