About Our Local Team

Meet the people behind your trek. Our locally run team guides travellers through Gunung Leuser National Park with care, experience, and respect for wildlife.

Our Story

Rooted in Bukit Lawang

We grew up in Bukit Lawang, beside Gunung Leuser National Park. The forest is part of our daily lives, and many of our families have worked around tourism for years.

Today, our team helps travellers visit the area with clear guidance, careful planning, and respect for the animals that live here.

Several of our guides hold HPI certification and follow established guiding and safety practices. Before each trip, guests receive practical information about the route, equipment, meeting point, and trail conditions.

Choosing a locally run operator also helps support guides, cooks, drivers, guesthouses, and other small businesses in the village.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bukit Lawang Orangutan Tour locally operated?

Yes. Our team is based in Bukit Lawang and consists of local guides who grew up around the village and Gunung Leuser National Park. This local connection shapes how we plan each route and introduce guests to the forest.

Are your jungle guides certified?

Yes. Our website states that the team includes guides certified by HPI, the Indonesian Tour Guide Association. Certification supports professional guiding standards, but guests must still follow all safety and wildlife instructions during the trek.

Why should I choose a local guide?

A local guide understands the trails, weather, wildlife behaviour, and changing forest conditions around Bukit Lawang. They can also explain the plants, animals, and local context found along the route.

How does your team treat wildlife responsibly?

We do not allow guests to feed, touch, chase, call, or block wildlife. Visitors must keep a respectful distance, avoid flash photography, and follow the guide’s instructions during every encounter.

Can your guides guarantee an orangutan sighting?

No. Orangutans and other animals move freely inside the national park. Our guides look for signs of wildlife and choose suitable routes, but every sighting depends on natural movement, weather, and trail conditions.

Does booking with your team support local people?

Yes. A locally organised trip creates work for guides, cooks, drivers, guesthouses, and other small businesses around Bukit Lawang. It also keeps more of the visitor spending within the local area.

Who will lead my jungle trek?

Your guide will be assigned based on the selected package, travel date, route, and team availability. Before departure, you will receive the meeting details and practical information needed for the trek.

Can I learn about the guide before booking?

Yes. You can view the available team profiles or contact us before booking. If you have questions about certification, language, route experience, or group arrangements, send them together with your travel details.
