Detailed Trek Itinerary
Day 1: Jungle Trekking and Riverside Camping
8:30 AM: Pick Up
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel or guesthouse in Bukit Lawang village.
8:50 AM: Trekking Briefing
Before entering the rainforest, you will receive a short briefing about the itinerary, trail conditions, safety, and responsible wildlife observation inside Gunung Leuser National Park.
9:00 AM: Start the Jungle Trek
The trek begins from Bukit Lawang and continues into the rainforest with your local guide. Along the trail, you may encounter Sumatran orangutans, Thomas leaf monkeys, long tailed macaques, gibbons, hornbills, and other tropical wildlife.
Your guide will explain the behavior of the animals you encounter and introduce you to rainforest plants traditionally used by local communities.
Around midday, the group will stop for fresh tropical fruit and lunch before continuing toward the campsite.
Afternoon: Arrive at the Jungle Campsite
The campsite is located beside a river inside the rainforest. After arriving, you can rest, enjoy the surroundings, or swim in the river when conditions are suitable.
In the evening, the trekking team will prepare dinner at the campsite. You will spend the night surrounded by the natural sounds of the rainforest.
Day 2: Morning Jungle Walk and River Tubing
Wake up at the campsite and enjoy breakfast prepared by the trekking team.
After breakfast, you will continue with a shorter morning walk through the rainforest. This gives you another opportunity to observe wildlife and learn more about the Gunung Leuser ecosystem.
Late in the morning, the group will return to the river and prepare for the journey back to Bukit Lawang.
Large rubber tubes are securely connected to form a traditional jungle raft. Your guides will accompany you along the Bohorok River while you enjoy views of the surrounding rainforest.
The trek usually finishes near your accommodation in Bukit Lawang between 1:00 and 2:00 PM.
